Hazem A. Elariny, MD, PhD, FACS

We are dedicated to delivering the highest quality, innovative, and safest surgical care available to our patients. We strongly believe in the application of minimally invasive techniques and approaches whenever indicated to aid in reduced pain, improved recovery, and superior cosmetic results. All surgeons are board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Elariny is the founder of the Sleeve Gastrectomy procedure as an independent stand-alone bariatric surgery procedure. He performed the first Sleeve Gastrectomy in the year 2000 at Inova Fairfax Hospital and he has performed thousands of Sleeve Gastrectomy procedures for his beloved patients. Today the Sleeve Gastrectomy is the most widely accepted bariatric surgery procedure in the world, it is three times more commonly performed than gastric bypass, 30 times more commonly performed than duodenal switch, and 150 times more than SADI. He is also the  first surgeon to perform Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass and Duodenal Switch for morbid obesity, gastrectomy for cancer, appendectomy, Nissen fundoplication, and most other laparoscopic procedures in the Greater Washington, DC Metropolitan, Northern Virginia, and Southern Maryland Areas as early as 1999. Dr. Elariny has an excellent success rate in terms of patient outcome and satisfaction. Procedures are done laparoscopically, with the fewest incisions safely possible. For example Dr. Elariny safely and accurately performs the Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy procedure with 3 incisions total: two 5 mm incisions and one 12 mm incision. 
Dr. Elariny is also a cosmetic surgeon and has performed over 1000 cosmetic, liposuction and excisional cosmetic procedures.

Office Team

F. Alex Soliman

Alex received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Washington State in 1976. In 1980 she completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington. She completed advanced training in and completed Nutrition Certicication and currently serves as our Nutritionist providing pre and post-operative education for patients. Alex served and helped develop our Case Manager and Patient Care Navigator processes.

Curtis Williams

Since he has joined our team many years ago, Curtis has been an incredible asset and patient liaison. In conjunction with our surgeons, he coordinates clinical care, secures insurance approvals, and assists patients in preparing for their surgery day. He is the go-to person for most issues including insurance requirements, surgical and hospital fees, financing, office certifications, and pretty much everything else. He is an all-around fantastic guy and manages office flow, appointments, medical records, and reception services.

Andrea Puna

Andrea is our wonderful reception services team member and has proved to be an excellent addition to the team. She is facile with document management, forms, internet and software platforms, and most importantly she knows how to coordinate and plan and manage the team, including surgeons. She is also an incredible host!
