A referral to a surgeon does not automatically mean an operation. The first task is to understand what is causing your symptoms and whether a surgical treatment is likely to address it. Bring your imaging, prior operative reports and the questions you most want answered.

The technique follows the clinical need

Laparoscopic, robotic-assisted and open surgery are approaches to an operation. The choice should fit the condition and anatomy. A smaller incision is useful when it supports a safe and appropriate treatment; the name of a technique is not a promise of a better result.
